Virtual Remodeler Tool - The perfect Free Tool For Remodeling

One of the hardest parts about selecting colors for the exterior design of your home, whether you are building new or remodeling,  is that the color you are seeing in front of you looks different when you are 100 feet away driving by on the street.  When I am helping my clients to select all of their exterior materials, I have samples for them to look at of all the different vinyl siding options, brick, stone, fascia, etc for them to look at in person.  I then show them pictures I have taken of houses in each of the colors (when I have them, not all colors are chosen very often) and then we can compare the siding to the picture, so you can get the idea of what you could expect the outside of your home to look like.

However, not everybody has me, and I don't always have all of the samples, depending on what you are looking at.  I just found a great tool online called The Virtual Remodeler Tool that allows you to change out the vinyl siding, stone, windows, and patio doors to see how the colors would look.  You can use one of their images, or you can upload the image of your house.  You don't need to know any fancy computer programs.  You just click the area you want to change, and select a product! Its seriously the easiest online tool I have used, and I like that the colors you can choose from are the actual siding colors, so you are getting an accurate representation.

Studying and Mid Career Changes

My husband really wants to go back to school to do his masters degree. We debate if its worth the time and money to quit the day job and rip the band-aid off, or to take night classes and endure the painfully slow years and years it would take to complete bit by bit. I am not sure that a masters degree will get your foot in the door one way or another for a job, but in a tough economy, it could mean you getting hired over another candidate.

The process is also not as simple as signing up for the classes, like an undergrad degree, there are tests to take. Flashbacks to SAT and LSAT s in high school echo through my mind as the letters GMAT are mentioned around the house. I can hear my mom harassing me to do the practice quizzes and the fun CD games every Saturday afternoon. I do not want to turn into my husbands mom. That would not be fun for any of us, but I could see it happening.

Well, the nice part about being an adult is that you are motivated yourself, for your own reasons. My husband bought study manuals, but after much discussion we are thinking the best way to be organized about your test preparation is to take a course to keep you on pace. You can take an in person class one night a week, or take 7 straight days (link to find out more).

What are your thoughts on masters degrees? Are they worth it for non specific careers (meaning unless you are wanting to be a professor, lawyer, optometrist, physicians assistant, etc)? Do you think the payout would be worth it? I am curious to know thoughts on the matter.

Herkimer Diamonds

I have recently been hearing more and more about these Herkimer Diamonds.  They don't look like a traditional diamond but have flecks in them.  They are also huge.  I received a diamond to review, and the ideas of what to create with it are endless.  I think the stone is too large for a ring.  Maybe a pendant?

I love this pendant, it emphasizes the beauty of the irregular shape.

This ring is my favorite.  I love its simplicity.  I think this is what I am looking for.  Now to find a ring.
